Voting Rights are under attack. Let's protect and SAVE them!
DEMOCRACY IS ON THE BALLOT
DEMOCRACY IS ON THE BALLOT
Make no mistake, Voting Rights in America are in peril as new and old voter suppression tactics are being put into place in many States by way of election subversion, gerrymandering, voter and poll worker intimidation. It is vital for Americans of all backgrounds to make sure that the right to vote is strengthened and maintained as we continue to fight for our rights now and in the future.
Let's remember that while enduring segregation, denial of equal access, and basic human dignity, African Americans were confronted with systematic denial of their right to vote by the use of poll taxes, literacy tests and various forms of obstruction and intimidation in the Jim Crow south. We will NOT go back to that era.
"The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by human beings for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison people because they are different from others." - Martin Luther King Jr.

The Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1870, established that “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude."
The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed in 1919 and ratified in August 1920. It states that "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." This Amendment granted American women the right to vote, but did not include African American and other minority women.
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, and was aimed at overcoming legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented all African Americans from exercising their right to vote, as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The short story "Liars Don't Qualify" exemplifies the struggle for voting rights, with the courage of a Black man who attempts to register to vote in the late 1950s, before the Voting Rights act of 1965 was passed.
Will Harris is a Korean War U.S. Army veteran who after returning to his hometown in the south, plans to do the impossible - register to vote. Will is given a hard time at the registrars office, where his attempt to register is denied by two clerks who use intimidation, literacy tests, misleading questions, and pure bigotry to thwart his right to vote.
